Eaux Baby, No. 5X5

How did you come up with your derby name?

I started out playing derby in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where most everything that ends in an “oh” sound is spelled “-eaux” to express the French heritage. I wanted my name to reflect my derby roots and one of my former teammates came up with the name.

How did you come up with your number?

It has dual meaning. It refers to my undying love for Buffy and also reminds me of how I would like to play on the track – with excellent strength and perfect clarity.

How and when did you get involved with roller derby?

About six years or so ago, one of my best friends from Minnesota used to call me and talk about how much fun she had watching derby and that I should play. I used to hang up the phone and stalk teams on the internet. It looked fun, but dangerous. After tearing my ACL, breaking my knee and having reconstructive surgery from a cycling accident in 2009, I decided that getting hurt could happen at any time – might as well do something fun and that I loved. The day after I was released from physical therapy on December 12th, 2009, I went to a skate clinic with Big Easy Roller Girls. I joined Red Stick Roller Derby in February 2010 and then transferred to ARRG in February 2011 after moving to St. Louis.

Any serious injuries?

Not really. I injured something in my shoulder that hurt for about a year, but strength training has (mostly) put it back in order.

Do you have a rival on the track?

Currently seeking applicants.

What is your favorite position to play?

I don’t like to categorize myself, except with made-up terms. I like the sound of Blammer.

What is the worst penalty you ever committed?

Penalties? What penalties?

Do you have any pre-bout rituals?

Black eyeliner and discopunk.

What Kind of skates and wheels do you roll on?

Riedell 265s with PowerDyne Aluminum Plates and Heartless Chaser/Vanish combo.
