How did you come up with your derby name?

First name Deathica is because I like metal and horror films but mainly because death inspired me to learn my family tree. Also, it sounds similar to my real name. Last name Steele is because I was in love with Peter Steele from the band Type of Negative and the name just sounds metal & brutal.

How and when did you get involved in roller derby?

I started roller derby back in 2007 at the beginning of ARRG's 2nd Season. I heard about derby leagues in other cities via TV and wondered if St. Louis had a team. Did an internet search and found ARRG!

Any serious injuries?

Nothing too serious but I have bruised my tailbone twice and bruised both knees on several occasions where they were really jacked up...

Do you have a rival on the track?

My boyfriend's ex-girlfriend! We are on separate teams. We are rivals only on the track though, otherwise we are cool and we were friends first.

Favorite position to play?

B2 because I get to work throughout the pack...mostly helping out the front & back packs. I really enjoy blocking and moving around a lot.

Worst penalty ever committed?

Tripping the opposing jammer by accident.

Any pre-bout rituals?

I make sure I get at least 8-10 hours of sleep. I eat a BIG breakfast with orange juice. The rest of the day I drink a lot of water. Then while I'm warming up I sip on an energy drink but drink water during the bout. I also like to listen to my favourite Deathica tunes to get pumped!

What kind of skates and wheels do you roll on?

Classic Wicked 265 with PowerDyne aluminum lightweight plates, KWIK Abec 9 Precision Speed bearings and Hyper Blue Witch Doctor wheels (I swear by them).

Most exciting moment in your derby career?

When my family & friends came to watch me skate!
