PLUS: ARRG HITS GROVEFEST & HOME VENUE WINS AWARD!
The Arch Rival Roller Girls are throwing a party this weekend in St. Louis’ Bevo Neighborhood and you’re invited.
This Friday night, the official 2012 ARRG Awards Party will be held at The Heavy Anchor (5226 Gravois, St. Louis).
The casual ceremony begins at 7 pm and is free and open to the public.
Awards for local and travel teams will be presented, including honors for respective team’s MVPs, jammers and blockers.
There will also be “tongue-in-cheek” awards presented in a variety of categories, including “Stinkiest Pads,” Meanest Roller Girl,” and “Best Rack.” (Muckety’s Memo: I have no clue what that last category means.)
The winner of “2011-12 ARRG Fan Favorite,” as voted by the public at the official ARRG website, will also be revealed.
The Heavy Anchor features over 50 selections of brews, an eclectic selection of house drinks and wine by the glass.
This will be the second consecutive year The Heavy Anchor has hosted the year-end awards party. Find out more about this venue by going to their official website LOCATED RIGHT HERE.
Once again, there’s no cover charge and there’s free parking nearby.
We invite you to come out and celebrate a successful derby season this Friday night at The Heavy Anchor with Arch Rival Roller Girls!
ARRG HITS GROVEFEST THIS SATURDAY!
As if the party on Friday wasn’t enough, the Arch Rival Roller Girls continue the revelry this Saturday at the 7th Annual Grovefest, located in the Grove Neighborhood of St. Louis.
The street festival takes place from 2 pm – 11 pm along Manchester between Kingshighway and Vandeventer.
Live music, live and interactive art, fashion shows, street performers, and of course, local food, drinks and wares of the Grove’s and St. Louis’s finest establishments will be featured.
A long-time fixture of Grovefest, the Arch Rival Roller Girls will also have a presence there. However, their participation will be somewhat different this year.
Instead of performing demonstration bouts, the league will have its own “hops-influenced adult beverage stand” this Saturday.
We’ll be in competition with other stands serving similar product. Long story short, you can help the league win a prize by making a purchase at their “barley-based landmark of libation.” (Hint, hint?)
ARRG skaters – as well as the STL Gatekeepers men’s roller derby franchise – will also be in full gear will also be there greeting the public.
The event drew over 12,000 attendees last year. To find out the latest at Grovefest 2012, visit their official Facebook page RIGHT OVER HERE!
We’ll see you this Saturday at Grovefest!
ARRG’S HOME VENUE WINS AWARD IN RFT’S “BEST OF STL”
Midwest Sport Hockey – the home of the Arch Rival Roller Girls’ local events – last week won an award in the annual Riverfront Times’ “Best of STL” edition.
The editorial staff of the weekly alternative selected the venue as “Best Lesbian Bar.”
(Muckety’s Memo for those readers from outside the local area: The annual “Best of RFT” poll is broken down into two distinct designations: an overall “readers’ choice” category that is voted upon by the public and an “editors’ choice” category that is selected by the RFT. There are the traditional subcategories such as “Best Pizza,” “Best Country Band” and “Favorite St. Louis Blues Player.” But there are also the non-conventional subcategories such as “Best Hair on a Television Personality,” “Best Place to People Watch” and “Best Place to Buy Sex Toys.” The picks by the RFT editorial staff are sometimes “tongue in cheek” in tone. Long story short, we have a good sense of humor and appreciate the publicity!)
This marks the first time that the Arch Rival Roller Girls have been associated with a winner in the “Best of RFT” category.
Midwest Sport Hockey has been the home venue of the Arch Rival Roller Girls since April 2011 and has also been the home venue of the St. Louis Gatekeepers men’s roller derby franchise for their last two local seasons.
Truth be told, if not for Midwest Sport Hockey and its continued support and co-operation, flat-track roller derby in St. Louis County as we know it may not exist today.
To see the accolade, go to the official RFT weblink RIGHT OVER HERE!
Congratulations to Midwest Sport Hockey for the award and we look forward to seeing you at St. Louis’ “Best Lesbian Bar,” as selected by the editorial staff of the Riverfront Times, when ARRG’s 2012-13 local season starts up on Saturday, November 10.
NEXT MONDAY IN THE ARRG NEWSCENTER: We’ll see who took home the top prizes at the ARRG 2011-12 Awards Party, plus another draft solidifies the local line-ups as the season opener approaches!
Check back in this section on Mondays for the latest in ARRG news/information!
