The Stunt Devils win 86 – 78

On March 28th, the Smashinistas took on the Stunt Devils in “A Fistful of Fishnets” at the All-American Sports Mall, and this bout only proved that ARRG’s fourth season is proving to be its most exciting yet. The Smashies, fresh off a surprise win against the M80s last month were looking to extend their winning streak; the Stunts, in their first bout of the season, were looking to get a win on the board and prove that their trip to last season’s championship was no fluke.

Smashies co-captains Jenny Bonebreak and Chokehold Chanel kept the pressure on with jam after impressive jam, but the Stunts managed to keep things close thanks to strong blocking and the talents of Artemischief, who scored a massive 62 points! This bout was down to the wire, but the Stunts pulled away in the last few minutes, defeating the Smashies 86 to 78.

The ladies (& gents) of ARRG will be running in their undies!!!

So far the ARRG team has rasied $980…$20 more and we will have raised $1000.00 to help fight colon cancer!

It would be great if you could help us make it to that $1000 mark… 2 people that each donate $10 and we’re there!

If you’d rather run than donate, you can also sign up to run with Team ARRG!

Thank you in advance for the support!
ARRG!

Yep, you read it right! 5000 meters in your favorite undergarment!

The Colon Cancer Alliance’s (CCA) 1st Annual St. Louis Undy 5000 event will take place on Saturday, March 28th, 2009.

This “brief” 5K run/walk is designed to raise awareness and funds for the fight against colorectal cancer. Because runners and walkers will be wearing anything from their favorite running shorts to their wildest pair of boxers, this event is sure to get people talking.

The Undy 5000 begins at 9AM and will be held at Forest Park at the Upper Muny parking lot. All Undy 5000 participants will receive a commemorative pair of boxers (while supplies last). The Gateway CCA Chapter will kick off the opening ceremony, set to begin around 8:45AM.

Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top three males and females in the following age groups: 10 & under, 11 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 & over.

You can register for the event online by visiting the Undy 5000 website. You can also register during packet pickup, which will be held on Friday, March 27th, at FLEET FEET Sports in Chesterfield, from 10AM-8PM. There will also be race day registration and packet pickup.

This important but fun event will be held in different cities across the country throughout the year to educate the public about colon cancer, promote screenings, and get people talking about this deadly, but preventable disease. The Undy 5000 will raise much-needed funds to support and build CCA’s innovative screening and awareness programs.

Facts about colorectal cancer:

— Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the United States; 2nd only to smoking-..related lung cancer.

Final Score: KCRW 89 ARRG 80

March 7th was a great night for roller derby as the ARRG All-Stars took on the Kansas City Roller Warriors at the All American Sports Mall. The All Stars had their work cut out for them as the 2007 WFTDA National Champion Roller Warriors boast a reputation of fast jammers and hard hitters.

Although KC took and maintained an early lead the All-Stars kept the pressure on. Even in the final minutes, an unbelievable jam by Jenny Bonebreak brought ARRG within 6 points of the lead. However, the Roller Warriors held on during the last jam winning with a final score of 89 -80.

Congrats to the Smashinistas!

The Arch Rival Roller Girls kicked off their fourth season at the All-American Sports Mall on February 21st, as last year’s champions the M80s hosted the Smashinistas in the Masquerade Brawl.

Both teams spent the off-season drafting new members and refining their skills–-the M80s looking to continue their seemingly unbeatable winning streak, and the Smashies looking to hand them their first defeat since 2007.

The M80s, unsurprisingly, took the early lead with their consistently solid teamwork. One notable performance was 2008 Hardest Hitter, Overland Offender, wearing the jammer panty 11 times and scoring 24 points–-more than any of her teammates.

However, this was not the usual blow-out that ARRG fans have come to expect when the M80s play.

Smashies co-captains Jenny Bonebreak and Chokehold Chanel turned out impressive jams time and time again to keep the pressure on and the score close. This bout was a nail-biter till the very end, but the Smashies emerged triumphant, beating the M80s 85-79.
